While travelling from the east to the west or back, merchants and other riders or cart drivers lived in small cabins made for this reason. Road houses were wooden constructions or ones made of fabric where visitors spent the night on vestigial mattresses and used to bathe in wooden barrels. Road houses were often attacked by Indians or bandits.
Union Pacific Railway Company was commissioned by the U.S. government to construct the railway lines that would connect the east with the west, that would be the construction of the Intercontinental.
During the construction of that route of the railway small towns-stations were built literally overnight. At first, they helped the people who worked on the constructions who were mostly Chinese immigrants and later on travelers themselves.
Many of those stations, though, were proven not to be cost-effective and were thus taken down. Another reason would be the fact that the railway changed and turned to a more accessible location as it happened with Ziogas Western City. The passage through Black Hills proved to be a difficult problem to solve.
In those abandoned useless wagons of those long forgotten stations cowboys who lost their money gambling or drinking alcohol, adventurers and outlaws used to sleep.

The fever of gold seduced thousands of adventurers but also commoners who believed in the easy and fast money idea. Golddiggers stayed in log cabins near rivers or mines. Many of those people died of hardships, cold, diseases and numerous mine rock slides. Very few people survived and became rich.
The hut was built on the ground. The inside was small and warm. The bed was attached to the wall and over the old chest hang and old gas lamp. They spent the cold nights there until the early hours. A small stove would attempt to keep the place warm.
